Avalon Airport is considered to be Melbourne's second main airport, (after Tullamarine Airport). Avalon airport is located 40 minutes from downtown Melbourne and 15 minutes from Geelong. For this reason it is a gateway to Victoria's two largest cities.
Since Avalon airport is not in downtown Melbourne, getting a nice economical car hire is a great option as opposed to a large taxi fair to Melbourne. Avalon airport is only likely to get busier with Jetstar already flying in, and the talk of maybe Avalon taking International Flights.
From Avalon, you can visit great places like Geelong. Regarded as the "Gateway to the Great Ocean Road", Geelong is situated south-west of Melbourne, making it a great destination for locals and tourists.
Further out of Geelong, the beautiful Barwon River is ideal for cycling, fishing or a family picnic or barbeque. There are plenty of walks, and over 20km of bike paths and gardens. Also easily accessible to travellers are the Buckley Falls which have a platform for viewing the panorama of the valley and river below.
So next time you are planning a holiday to Melbourne and its surrounding areas, why not choose to fly into Avalon Airport? To book Avalon Airport car hire, use the quote box above to choose your pick-up/drop-off locations and travel dates.
